These Terms of Use set out the rules for using satiatepdx.com and for booking services from Satiate, including wine-country tours, wine education classes, cellar consulting, copywriting, food photography and custom culinary itineraries. Please read them carefully, especially the sections on age requirements, cancellations, responsible drinking and limitation of liability. Last updated: October 1, 2026.

1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form an agreement between you and Satiate ("Satiate," "we," "us" or "our"), a food, wine and travel magazine and services business based in Portland, Oregon, USA. By accessing satiatepdx.com, subscribing to our newsletter, or requesting, booking or paying for any of our services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Disclaimer, which are incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or our services.
If you book on behalf of a group, company or other people, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for them and that you will share the relevant parts, particularly sections 7 to 10, with everyone in your party.
2. Eligibility and age requirements
- Our website contains content about wine, beer, spirits, cider and other alcoholic beverages. You must be of legal drinking age in your country of residence, and at least 21 years old in the United States, to engage with that content.
- Anyone participating in a tour, tasting or class where alcohol is served must be at least 21 and carry valid government-issued photo identification. Venues and our team may check ID, and anyone unable to show it will not be served alcohol.
- Guests under 21 may join certain experiences only if we have agreed this in writing in advance, they are accompanied by a parent or guardian, and the venue permits it. They will not be served alcohol under any circumstances.
- Copywriting, photography and consulting clients must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract.
3. Using our website
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable permission to view and use satiatepdx.com for personal, non-commercial purposes. When using the site, you agree not to:
- copy, republish, sell or commercially exploit our content except as permitted in section 4;
- use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download content, including for training machine-learning systems, without our written permission;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its hosting infrastructure or our email systems, or interfere with their operation;
- submit false, misleading, unlawful, harassing or infringing material through our forms;
- use the site in any way that breaks applicable law.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time, and we may block access by anyone who breaches these Terms.
4. Intellectual property
Our content
Unless stated otherwise, the text, recipes as written, itineraries, guides, design, logos and the Satiate name are owned by Satiate and protected by copyright and trademark law. All rights reserved. You may share a link to any page and quote brief excerpts for commentary or review, provided you credit Satiate and link to the original article.
Photographs
Some photographs on our site come from our own archive and are owned by Satiate. Others are sourced from Unsplash and used under the Unsplash License; those images remain the property of their photographers and are subject to that license, not to these Terms. You may not reuse any Satiate archive photograph without our written permission. See our Disclaimer and Editorial Policy for more on photo credits.
Client work
Ownership and licensing of copywriting, photography and other creative work we produce for clients is set out in the individual proposal or agreement for that project. Unless that agreement says otherwise, we transfer the agreed usage rights once payment is received in full, and we may display the work in our portfolio.
5. Your submissions
If you send us story tips, comments, photographs, recipes, feedback or other material ("Submissions"), you confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, edit and publish your Submission in connection with Satiate, with credit to you where practical. We are not obliged to publish or respond to any Submission, and we do not accept unsolicited ideas on the basis that we owe compensation for them. Please do not send confidential information through our forms.
6. Service bookings, quotes and payment
Enquiries and quotes
Submitting our contact form is an enquiry, not a booking. We will reply with availability and a written quote or proposal describing what is included, such as the itinerary, venues, transport, tasting fees, meals and number of guests. Quotes are valid for 14 days unless they state otherwise, and depend on venue availability at the time you confirm.
Confirming a booking
A booking is confirmed only when you have accepted the quote in writing (email is fine) and we have received any required deposit. For private tours, a 50% deposit confirms your date unless we have agreed otherwise. Education classes, consulting, copywriting and photography projects may have different payment schedules, which will be set out in your quote or project agreement.
Balance and payment methods
Unless your quote says otherwise, the remaining balance for tours and classes is due no later than 7 days before your date, and for creative and consulting projects according to the agreed milestones. We will tell you the accepted payment methods when we send your quote. Prices are in US dollars and include the items listed in the quote only. Gratuities for drivers or venue staff, purchases of wine to take home, and extras requested on the day are not included unless stated.
Group size changes
Please tell us as early as possible if your group size changes. Additional guests depend on availability and are charged at the quoted per-person rate. Reductions made less than 7 days before your date are not refunded, as venue and transport costs are usually fixed by then.
7. Cancellation and rescheduling
We understand that plans change. Our policy balances fairness to you with the commitments we make to wineries, restaurants and transport partners on your behalf.
Cancellations by you
| When you cancel (before your service date) | Deposit refund |
|---|---|
| 14 days or more | Full refund of your deposit |
| 7 to 13 days | 50% of your deposit refunded |
| Less than 7 days, or no-show | No refund |
Any balance already paid beyond the deposit will be refunded, less any non-refundable third-party costs we have already incurred for you (for example, prepaid tasting fees or reserved meals), which we will itemize. Cancellations must be made in writing to [email protected] and take effect on the date we receive them.
Rescheduling by you
You may move your booking once without charge if you ask at least 14 days before your date and a new date is available within 12 months. Later requests are treated as cancellations under the table above, although we will always try to help.
Cancellations by Satiate
We may cancel or postpone a service because of severe weather, wildfire smoke or fire danger, poor road conditions, illness, venue closure or any other safety concern. If we do, you may choose a full refund of everything you have paid us or a free reschedule. We may also adjust an itinerary on the day, substituting a comparable venue if one closes unexpectedly. We are not responsible for travel, accommodation or other costs you arrange independently, so we recommend travel insurance.
Creative and consulting projects
For copywriting, photography and consulting work, cancellation terms, including payment for work completed to date, are set out in your project agreement.
8. Tour conduct and responsible drinking
Our tours and classes are about tasting, learning and enjoying, not about volume. By joining, you agree to:
- drink responsibly, pace yourself, and use the spit buckets and water provided;
- never drive after drinking. Satiate arranges transportation options for tours, and you must not drive yourself between or after tastings where alcohol is consumed;
- follow the instructions of our guides, drivers and venue staff, including on safety, vineyard etiquette and seating;
- treat other guests, staff and property with respect;
- tell us in advance about any medical condition, medication, pregnancy, allergy or mobility need that may affect your participation.
We and our partner venues may refuse alcohol service to, or remove from the experience, anyone who appears intoxicated, is behaving in an unsafe or abusive way, or cannot show valid ID. No refund is due in these circumstances. Oregon law prohibits serving visibly intoxicated people, and we take that responsibility seriously.
9. Transportation
Where transport is part of your booking, we arrange it through licensed and insured transportation providers, or provide it ourselves where permitted. Guests must wear seatbelts, follow the driver's instructions and arrive at the agreed pickup point on time. Late arrivals may shorten the itinerary without refund. Drivers may refuse to carry anyone whose behavior puts others at risk. The transport provider is responsible for the operation of its vehicles under its own terms and insurance.
10. Third-party venues and suppliers
Wineries, tasting rooms, restaurants, farms, hotels, guides and other businesses included in our services are independent from Satiate. They set their own opening hours, tasting fees, menus, house rules and safety practices, and they are responsible for their premises, products and staff. Although we choose partners carefully, we do not control them and are not responsible for their acts or omissions, the quality or safety of food and drink they serve, or any personal injury or loss occurring on their property, except to the extent caused by our own negligence. Purchases you make directly from a venue, such as bottles or wine-club memberships, are between you and that venue.
11. Disclaimers
Our website content is provided for general information and entertainment, as explained in our Disclaimer. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We provide our services with reasonable care and skill, but we do not guarantee particular outcomes, such as the future value of a wine collection, the commercial results of copywriting, or the weather on your tour day.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Satiate will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill or enjoyment, arising from your use of the site or our services;
- our total liability for any claim relating to a service is limited to the amount you paid us for that service, and for any claim relating to the website alone, to one hundred US dollars (USD 100).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or willful misconduct.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Satiate and its contributors, guides and contractors from any claims, losses, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the site, your Submissions, or your conduct during a service, including intoxication, damage to property, or injury to others, except to the extent caused by our own negligence.
14. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute arises, please contact us first. Most concerns can be settled quickly by a conversation, and we commit to responding in good faith within 30 days. If we cannot resolve it informally, either party may bring a claim in the state or federal courts located in Multnomah County, Oregon, and both parties consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. Either party may also bring an eligible claim in small claims court. If you are a consumer living outside the United States, you may also have rights under the mandatory laws of your country of residence that these Terms do not override.
15. General terms
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with any written quote, proposal or project agreement for a specific service, form the entire agreement between you and us. If they conflict, the specific written agreement takes priority for that service.
No waiver and assignment
Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may assign them to a successor business.
Events beyond our control
We are not liable for failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, wildfire, severe weather, public-health orders or road closures. Section 7 explains your refund options when we cancel.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version in effect when you confirm a booking applies to that booking. Changes to the website terms take effect when posted, and the "Last updated" date above shows the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
